Everything about the Bluebell Trail Run, held at Dalkeith Country Park near Edinburgh, was delightful. The good weather helped, with the Scottish sun shining brightly on Sunday morning. Registration was quick and easy, leaving plenty of time to queue for the portaloo (only a couple of minutes!) and catch a glimpse of the under 12s as they aimed for the finish-line of the 1km run – including the under 5s who looked delighted as they ran the last 30 metres next to their mum or dad.
The pre-race warm-up was a good laugh, with squats, jumps and lunges loosening runners’ muscles, and with the final instruction being to hug the person next to you. Who could resist?
