What is it? The Glute Drive – or Glute Bridge machine – is one of the more unusual and intimidating pieces of equipment in the gym but, if used correctly, it will work wonders for your running form and performance. When a machine is referred to as ‘plate-loaded’, all that means is you manually load weight plates onto the machine to achieve the desired load. This differs to ‘pin-loaded’ machines which use a stack of pre-determined weights where you move a pin for load selection.
What’s it used for? The Glute Drive is specifically designed to isolate and activate your glutes with added resistance to achieve maximum results. Many adults living a modern sedentary lifestyle suffer from weak glutes, due to spending most of the day sitting down in front of a computer, in a car, on a train or on the sofa. Over time, this causes your glutes to get lazy which can wreak havoc on running form and posture. Isolating and strengthening your glutes with a machine such as the Glute Drive will help to bring this important muscle group back to life and in turn will improve your running form and leave you less prone to injuries. Don’t forget: the glutes are the biggest muscle group in the entire body so they deserve attention.
