Philip Pullman whose famous trilogy, His Dark Materials, sold more than 17 million books, cancelled haircuts when writing his latest children’s book, the first of a new trilogy. ‘He grew a horrible pony tail. He wore it for three years as a kind of talisman against writer’s block,’ The Week reported.
Philip told Bryan Appleyard, of The Sunday Times: ‘It was a silly thing to do. I said to myself, if I don’t cut my hair The Book of Dust will be all right. I am very superstitious, so I had this appalling thing stuck on the back of my head.’
