STEPHEN PALMER
The speculative fiction author tells Gary Dalkin about exploring possible worlds and his intensive writing method
AUTHOR PROFILE
Stephen Palmer’s debut novel, Memory Seed, came out in 1996, and he published several more titles before taking something of a hiatus in his writing career, only releasing one novel, Urbis Morpheos (2010), in the decade between 2005-2014. Then since 2014 Palmer has written seven new novels, most recently a psychological fantasy set during the First World War called Tommy Catkins. He explains how he manages such productivity while holding down a term-time job in education.
‘The summer holiday I reserve for relaxation and recovery, so that my best writing takes place during the three weeks of the winter break, when I write my main novel of the year.
