One look at this pretty thatched cottage and I was smitten

Jadzia Kaminska has beautifully transformed a dated cottage into a cosy and comfortable retreat
The fireplace is the focal point of this room, the Jotul stove makes the room really snug in the winter. The room is furnished with two striped sofas from Meadows and Byrne. Jadzia loves strong colours and fell in love with the orange painting by Irish artist Joe Magill. ‘I just knew it would work well in the living room, and along with my throws from The Lion and the Sun it really adds an injection of colour,’ says Jadzia

Finding her ideal property in Kells in County Kilkenny was a dream come true for Jadzia Kaminska. ‘I had always loved the pretty historic villages and the scenic countryside of the area and was keen to escape the city and buy somewhere in this location.’

Back in 2001 when Jadzia first discovered the cottage, she could immediately see the potential it had to offer. ‘I spotted the property in a local paper and jumped at the chance to go and view it. It was however very dated, with 1930s décor and an extremely basic kitchen, the back garden was unkempt and there was no garden to the front of the house. It was also right on the road, so there was a lot that needed to be done, but I could see that it would make a lovely and characterful home,’ says Jadzia.
