We’ve Brought the Coast to the Countryside

Suzie Marshall and Liam Dore have creatively transformed a drab cottage into a much-loved home that’s brimming with personality
Photos Richard Gadsby

Having fallen head over heels in love with their rented property, Suzie Marshall and Liam Dore couldn’t believe their luck when the opportunity arose to buy it. ‘It was incredible,’ says Suzie. ‘We had often mentioned how the one-bedroom cottage would be our ideal starter home, so when the landlady decided to sell, it really was a dream come true.’

Suzie is thrilled with the new-look living room and kitchen, which combines a mix of traditional and modern elements. The walls have been painted in Farrow & Ball’s Clunch. The John Sankey leather armchair was bought from Orange Tree at Darts Farm in Topsham, near Exeter. The pheasant cushion on the chair is from Helkat Design

Good idea!

Painting the panelling under the stairs in Farrow & Ball’s Blue Gray to blend with the Roger Oates runner has added depth and interest.
