We’ve given our home a big personality

Ruth and Robert Porteous’ home showcases their love of bold colours and loud patterns

Fortunately for Ruth and Robert, the previous owners had knocked three rooms into one to create a spacious kitchen diner, all it needed was an injection of colour. Retro tones and confident patterns show off the couple’s love of bold colour. ‘We spray painted our chairs blue to match the wallpaper, but in fact the grey primer we used also would have worked with the scheme,’ laughs Ruth

Good idea!

Mix and match different styles of dining chairs for a relaxed, eclectic look.

Moving from a top floor one-bedroom flat into this vast Edwardian terrace was an astounding piece of luck for Ruth and Robert Porteous. With a search area that spanned the entire zone 3 area of London, they had a large choice of properties, however when they spotted this huge four-bedroom house they couldn’t believe it was within their price range and they knew they would have to act quickly to beat the fierce competition. ‘We viewed the house the day it went on sale and offered the following day. Our flat sold in the same week so the process went smoothly and we moved in a few months later,’ recalls Ruth.
