1 To make the body of each asparagus spear, take a golf ball-sized lump of clay and roll it into a sausage. Using a sharp ruler or blade, cut off one end, to give it a flat edge. Use your fingers to shape the other end into a slight point. Take another handful of clay and roll it out flat until it is around 3mm thick. Use the blade to cut lots of triangles from it, then add these to the pointed end of the asparagus to make the leaves, overlapping them and smoothing the clay at the base of each until they are firmly joined to the stem.
