Concept artist Piotr Krynski explores how to build an engaging story through characters, composition and lighting
LAST WOMAN ON EARTH Take time to consider your composition, and how it serves the story you wish to tell with your image
Blender is an extremely fast-growing software, and it has become the main, go-to tool among many artists for commercial and personal work. The software, coupled with highly detailed character models from Character Creator 3 and clothes simulated in Marvelous Designer, help to push the visual quality of images even further.
One of the reasons I’m so committed to working in Blender is the ability to create highly realistic images within a reasonable amount of time, and because I’m a concept artist I need to be able to iterate on images quickly. Being able to create new models or shaders, change the lighting within a couple of clicks, and preview the render quickly makes it the perfect tool. On top of that, there’s also an enormous amount of addons available that offer simple and fast solutions to enhance your work.
In this tutorial, I share the thinking process behind my approach to character-driven art, and explore additional software that helps to achieve more realism when it comes to characters and clothes.
