Editor’s note

Welcome to our Air Accidents Uncovered supplement, where we’re taking the opportunity to tell the story of four very different aviation accidents. In the same way that our monthly Air Safety reports focus on the official investigations and safety recommendations to come out of them, the purpose of focusing on these less favourable moments in aviation is to shine a light on the lessons that have been learnt, which have made flying safer. A constant process of reflection and improvement when things go wrong is one of the ways that air travel has become such a safe method of transport.
