THE BATTLE to reopen Doncaster/Sheffield airport to commercial operations has moved a step closer after the council signed a 125-year lease for the site.
The airport closed in November 2022 after failing to make a profit in its 17-year existence. Owner Peel Group said it could not identify any viable proposals to keep the facility in operation. Since its mothballing, the city’s council has been fighting to restore the facility and reintroduce flights.
