Icelandic storyteller Hjorleifur Stefansson entertained a library full of avid listeners with tales of merfolk, trolls and ghosts. In a series of short stories entitled A Stroll with the Trolls, Hjorleifur gave his audience a night of folklore and fairy tales not suitable for children.
Starting with a gruesome tale of his grandfather having to deal with a dangling finger with no doctor in sight, the storyteller ended this opener with the words ‘and this is the only true story I’ll tell you tonight’.
From then on, mermen gave relationship and perspective advice, ghosts tried gunpowder as a recreational drug and trolls terrorised a trapped man with unique means.
