Arran Energy is the island’s own RHI-accredited supplier of renewable biomass wood fuels.
Wood chip fuel is produced by the company in large quantities each year from locally grown timber, using their specialised processing and handling systems. The renewable energy fuel is delivered daily to the eight commercial biomass boiler systems around the island, at premises such as the Auchrannie Spa, Lamlash Hospital and even the new Brodick Ferry Terminal.
‘We were instrumental in bringing the wood biomass heating energy concept to the island,’ says company owner Angus Smith. ‘Kinloch Hotel was the first to embrace the technology with their wood chip heating plant back in 2010, quickly followed by the Auchrannie Hotel.’ Today, all wood chip boilers on Arran are running at maximum efficiency ensuring the heat generated from local Arran timber is provided in a fully environmentally friendly manner. Arran Energy also provide domestic customers with wood pellets and hot-burning wood briquettes.
