The Saltire Society on Arran enjoyed an evening of sheer delight as Mary Fleming led members on a humorous and highly informative journey through the Sang of Scotland in a talk entitled Ballads and Blethers.
Rich in anecdote, Mary opened up 800 years of social history and rural life. Minstrels were the journalists of the day, services were held in Scots and social reform ensured education for boys and girls across the country.
Mary gave generously of her time and knowledge and members are keen to have her return for an event to be filmed. In the meantime she has started The Saltire Shelf with a copy of her book, Clarsach, Cramasie and Crowdie.
