‘STONE VENEER’ BY BENTLEY
A luxury car interior is, typically, enrobed by finest leather, accented at dashboard and door caps by glass-like wood veneer. More recent iterations see veneers stained piano black, aping a baby grand, or the adoption of ‘technical finishes’ – aluminium or carbon fibre, perhaps. But this is a first: what Bentley calls a ‘stone veneer’, an option from its Mulliner coachbuilder that — as the name suggests — is a wafer-thin layer of stone, sealed to silk matt sheen. It’s warm to the touch, dissipates light and perfectly offsets the car’s jewel-like dials and switchgear.
Tactile genius.
