TRAVEL
IT’S THE CITY THAT MASQUERADES AS NEW YORK AND WASHINGTON IN THE MOVIES. TORONTO IS CANADA’S HIDDEN GEM.
When it comes to travelling, Toronto — Canada’s largest city and the fourth largest city in North America — might not be a destination that immediately springs to mind. But, you know what? It’s a surprisingly cool holiday choice, because not only do you have the hustle and bustle of the metropolis, but there is also 43km of sandy beaches, marinas and working ports for you to enjoy too. For movie buffs, there is the added interest of hunting out streets and buildings that have appeared in films and TV series set in New York, Chicago and Washington.
We bedded down at the plush DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Toronto Downtown, which is located in the city centre and boasts an indoor heated pool, on-site restaurant, and a fitness centre. Our suite was spacious and came with all the mod cons, such as a flat-screen cable HDTV with pay-per-view channels, air conditioning, fridge-freezer, microwave, stovetop and utensils in our kitchen.
