REAL LIFE
TOM DINGLEY, 28, GREENWICH, PHOTOGRAPHER
Fear played a large part in my adolescence. I understood what my feelings were, but I just assumed when I reached 18 I would simply move away, somewhere over the rainbow where it wouldn’t matter.
But age 19 and 20 came and went and I still hadn’t addressed my sexuality. I had never had a girlfriend and avoided social situations – I was painfully shy – but I was comfortable with the front I put on for family and close friends. In hindsight I should have given them more credit, but my fear was greater than my trust in them.
