Airbrush Step by Step

No. 80 Airbrushing and vehicles – the two have long been closely linked. Especially in the U.S., custom painting remains the number one application for airbrushing to this day. In this issue, Coast Airbrush owner David Monnig presents a stunning combination of chrome and candy colors on a fuel tank. German artist Hadi Knütel also showcases his painting of a Triumph motorcycle featuring a British Union Jack design. From gleaming chrome, this issue moves into an area that tends to be a niche within the airbrush sector: nature and landscapes. What is most popular in art history and in all other painting techniques is very rare in airbrush art. It’s a shame, really, because the airbrush in particular enables depths, complexities, and the finest textures like no other painting tool. Three different artists provide proof of this in this issue with their landscape, floral, and animal motifs: Ukrainian artist Mitya Ka drew direct inspiration from Pre-Raphaelite art and depicts a romantic scene of a young girl by the river. His compatriot Oleksandra Korolenko, on the other hand, focuses on flowers and an iguana, crafting a harmonious color composition from them. Radiating calm and positivity is also the goal of Michael Wood’s mural: his underwater worlds in a US prison have a soothing effect on inmates, staff, and visitors to the facility. Finally, a brief overview of using Createx paints for customized T-shirt and textile designs also offers practical tips tailored to the season. With that in mind: Nothing stands in the way of an exciting airbrush summer!
