Uncorking Old Sherry is one of the satirical prints on offer in Grosvenor Prints’ latest online catalogue, number 87, featuring more than 450 examples of natural history and decorative pictures, prints of Constable and Turner, ephemera and more.
It depicts Prime Minister William Pitt turned toward the opposition and uncorking a bottle which contains the head of the playwright and politician Richard Brinsley Sheridan. The opposition is formed of bottles containing the heads of politicians, all labelled as different liquors. Published on March 10, 1805 by H Humphrey of St James Street, London, it is by James Gillray and is available for £1250.
