Guernsey post box – £24,000 at Martel Maides.
Having stood at Guernsey airport from 1946-81, the island post box, right, came out of storage in 1988 for presentation to the late politician and lawyer Roger Perrot who died earlier this year. A plaque marked his service as President of the States of Guernsey Post Office Board.
The 5ft 6in (1.67m) high, cast-iron item came into public view again to be the surprise star of Martel Maides’ (17.5% buyer’s premium) auction in St Peter Port on October 16.
