CONFESSIONS OF A TRAVEL PROFESSIONAL

A round-up of some of the funniest — and most embarrassing — stories from those working in the travel industry

CONFESSIONS

DANIEL

CRUISE-SHIP SINGER, 2015-PRESENT

EX-RATED

My first contract was in 2015 when I was 23, and I spent nine months sailing around the Mediterranean. As it was my first time at sea, I had no idea what to expect, or just how difficult living with the same group of people on a floating tin can could actually be.

Being a singer in the cast, the group of people I was with were obviously a very high-spirited bunch, to put it mildly, and we all loved our crazy alcohol-fuelled nights out. I managed to get through nearly half the contract without getting in any “sticky” situations when it came to embarrassing one-night stands and walks of shame, until I ended up embroiled in a romance with one of the dancers. It didn’t end too well and it all got a bit awkward. I then swiftly moved on and shacked up with the guy I was sharing a cabin with, which was very convenient but also came to a messy end after he started getting too attached.

Then, a few nights before the end of my contract, I ended up in a cabin with both of my exes. It came to light that the two of them had been getting it on without me knowing so despite all of our differences and arguments, quite frankly we all just thought: “fuck it.” Three or four bottles of wine later the clothes started to come off and we ended up turning all that pent-up anger into a good old steamy “cabin party”. Let’s just say we worked through all our negative emotions. No hard feelings remained and we have all stayed in contact. Oh, happy days.
