During the first lockdown, Sophie Ellis-Bextor cooked up a welcome distraction from the COVID crisis with her weekly Kitchen Disco online gigs. After leaving fans hungry for more, the singer is back to serve another feast for the ears with her greatest hits album, Songs from the Kitchen Disco (out now). A firm fixture on the music scene since topping the UK charts in 2000 — featuring on Spiller’s Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love) — Sophie, 41, tells us she has had her share of memorable showbiz moments, with one in particular leaving her feeling, ahem, flushed. “I was once in a queue for the loo next to Helena Bonham-Carter,” she recalls. “We ended up talking about how we were both really quick in the loo and didn’t understand why some women took so long in the cubicle. This resulted in Helena loudly counting how many seconds I was in there when I went first!” Here are a few of Sophie’s favourite things…
