Before Saturday 11 June I had never heard of the Latino night at Pulse nightclub, Orlando. Since 12 June, the day after Omar Mateen’s massacre at the LGBT club, I’ve thought of little else. I began to piece together my episodic, gradual knowledge of the culture.
The first time I saw a recognisable Hispanic and Latino gay crowd up close was at the New York club night, Body and Soul, in the 1990s.
