Makeup is enjoying a renaissance not seen since the hedonistic days of the 80s club kid. It’s common for both straight and gay men today to wear base foundations and bronzers, and as the line between gender binaries continues to blur, young women are experimenting with the kind of makeup that was once only seen on drag queens. And while makeup may now be mainstream, that doesn’t mean it has lost its edge. The creativity and freedom to experiment is no longer the preserve of pop stars – it’s also fully embraced on the high street.
