The green roof
Th e large curved roof was an obvious invitation to do something special with all the space on top. Given the house sits in a national park, it also seemed appropriate to add a natural sedum finish. Th is kind of living covering adds an element of insulation that can buffer extreme temperatures – especially in the summer months, when it can help to prevent overheating. Th e sedum also serves to protect the waterproof membrane from the effects of UV light, increasing its lifespan. “Up close you don’t see it,” says Martin, “but because there are views down onto the house from nearby hills and roads, it adds a beautiful touch of green and rust colouring.”
