PETER LANDERS
Country charm
Maintaining the original character of this property was a top priority for the homeowners throughout their barn conversion project. The building is listed, so the works had to adhere to strict planning conditions stipulated by the local conservation officer. As such, the design team at Blake Architects developed a scheme that retains the original walls and roof of the dwelling, thus preserving its authentic agricultural style, while integrating new elements such as storey-height glazing to bathe the open-plan interiors with natural light. A mezzanine level was also incorporated in this central vaulted area to house the owners’ collection of books and paintings.
