BILLY REEVES
NOSTALGIA OF THE FUTURE
LAST NIGHT FROM GLASGOW
★★★★
Former guitarist in theaudience and long-time underground pop maverick, Billy Reeves’ debut solo album cements his status as a human jukebox. Specialising in pastoral melancholia like Ivor Cutler fronting Saint Etienne, he also incorporates the anti-nostalgia stomp of Golden Days, Syd Barrett’s playfulness and Jarvis Cocker’s drama. It’s all done with a panache and wide-eyed love of both pop and humanity. Forget the past, Reeves helps make the present that bit brighter, aided by guests including Justin Hawkins, Hard-Fi’s Richard Archer and Sadie Momo.
