FOUNDATION II
Fêted by Morrissey, Bradford’s two remaining members compensate for that currently negative association by adding producer Stephen Street – who oversaw their only previous album, 1990’s Shouting Quietly – to their ranks. They’re less Smiths-like than Gene-like: some songs, including My Wet Face and the title track, never quite take off. But Feathers In The Fire is a pleasingly jangling waltz and banjos decorate the jaunty The Weightiness Of The Pointlessness, while singer Ian H is in particularly affecting voice on Gave A Time.
