BORN IN CRESSKILL, New Jersey, Gary Wright had what seemed like two separate careers, first as a keyboard player and vocalist with the British blues-rock band Spooky Tooth, with whom he released three albums between 1968 and ’69, and secondly via his huge solo hit single Dream Weaver, which reached No.2 in the US in 1976. He later admitted that the song was influenced by George Harrison, having played keyboards on the former Beatle’s album All Things Must Pass.
Wright released a solo album, Extraction, in 1970 and, following a Spooky Tooth reunion tour in 2004, performed live frequently with his own group or as a member of Ringo Starr’s All-Starr Band. His most recent solo record, Connected, was released in 2010.
