GERAINT THOMAS STORMS TO PARIS-NICE VICTORY
Geraint Thomas secured the biggest win of his career yet with victory at Paris-Nice on Sunday, further proving his credentials as a future Tour de France contender. The Welshman becomes only the third ever British rider, behind Tom Simpson and Sir Bradley Wiggins, to win the ‘Race to the Sun’, often classed as a measure of those who will contest victory in the Tour that year. Thomas had to hold off a string of attacks from Tinkoff’s Alberto Contador and BMC’s Richie Porte both two-time winners in the event on the final stage in order to claim the yellow jersey, to eventually win the overall by just four seconds.
