We’ve been busy hoovering the red carpet, dusting down the glitter ball and assembling our VIP list for the annual Diesel Car, Car of the Year Awards. Our team of testers have been checking their notebooks, revisiting their road tests and critically judging all of the 200-odd cars that we’ve tested over the past 12 months, to come up with a list of finalists that deliver the very best ability in their respective classes. Judged over ten key categories, this year’s awards is brought to you in association with our Car of the Year partner, Evolution Chips. Our motoring Oscars is the biggest, and arguably the most important, issue of the year.

We’ve also been testing Peugeot’s new load carrying 308 SW, the brand new executive people carrier, the Mercedes-Benz V-Class, and Maserati’s latest Quattroporte, now with a Jeep-sourced 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel unit, as well as getting behind the wheel of the updated Volkswagen Polo and latest Jeep Cherokee. We’ve driven Kia’s new Soul on UK roads for the first time, and tested Mitsubishi’s ground breaking new Outlander PHEV, as well as the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class. The recently facelifted Audi A8 meets its toughest adversary, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, in a limousine showdown, while Honda’s recently updated Civic 1.6 i-DTEC gets the On Test treatment.

This month we have a Peugeot 2008 and SEAT Leon ST join the long-term test fleet, as we bid farewell to our Volvo V70, and with the weather warming up, there’s a used car buyer’s guide for the hottest diesel SEAT Ibiza, the FR 2.0 TDI, in both SC Sport Coupé and five-door hatchback guise. And of course there’s all the favourites too, including Doctor Diesel, The Extra Mile and Gadget Inspector, as well as Meals on Wheels – Diesel Car’s guide to getting the best value, and good quality food and drink, while out travelling.

diesel, green cars, electric mag

The UK’s leading magazine for diesel, green cars, electric, hybrids and alternative fuelled vehicles, full of advice on tech, mechanics, future plans. great photos inspiring reviews Reviewed 21 August 2022

I like the way it has evolved over the years

I have been buying it in print and online since the early 2000s and I like that it always has focused on the economy end of motoring, or us cheapskates if you like. It has moved to covering hybrids and electric cars which is good, and hasn't forgotten its roots - diesels.

It's a friendly, down to early mag and Doctor Diesel is still the best bit.
