WONDERFUL, NOT WEIRD
CARRIE LYELL TAKES A LOOK AT SOME OF THE MORE UNUSUAL FETISHES AND TURN ONS OF WOMEN IN OUR COMMUNITY
I’ve been out as a queer lady for around 15 years now. I stumbled out of the closet with dutch courage afforded to me by my good friend alcohol and, in that moment, gave little thought to how my revelation might affect my life from that day onwards.
But there’s another coming out I’ve been a little more cautious about, unsure how those I love might react. I feel a bit embarrassed about it. I think people might make fun of me, or think I’m weird. I think it’s time to face the music though and come out and I say it… I like armpits.
I can’t pinpoint exactly when I became aware of this fetish, and it’s not a huge part of my life, but for as long as I can remember it’s been something I’ve hidden, concerned about how friends or potential partners might react. Because as liberated as we like to think we are in 2016, many fetishes and turn ons, however innocuous, are still considered deviant. And while some, like BDSM, enjoy a moment in the mainstream thanks to films like Fifty Shades Of Grey, many of us still feel the urge to hide away, ashamed of whatever it is that tickles our fancy.
