Twenty-five years is a long time in show business, especially when you start your career as a boy band. Very few boy bands successfully transition from teen heartthrobs to industry stayers. Even Justin Timberlake had to go solo to break free from the “boy band” brand.
Not so for Australian foursome Human Nature – Toby Allen, Phil Burton and brothers Andrew and Michael Tierney – who now have 25 platinum records to their credit. From touring with Michael Jackson and Celine Dion in the 1990s they went on to become Las Vegas headliners, performing over 1,000 shows, blending originals with the classic soul music of Motown.
With the release of their 13th album Gimme Some Lovin’ – Jukebox Vol. II the band are still firing professionally. On a personal level, all four are either experiencing fatherhood or about to. That includes Toby Allen and his partner, actor Darren Weller, proud dads of twins. For Toby and Darren, who’ve been together for over a decade, the decision to have children was easy to make. The IVF journey they took to get there, however, was fraught with false starts and heartbreaks.
