In the mid-1980s, people knew how to solve an international crisis – with a charity single. At the suggestion of production manager Gary Downie, a song about Doctor Who’s hiatus was swiftly written and a troupe of showbusiness personalities got together at London’s Trident Studios to record it, Band Aid style. These included members of Ultravox and Bucks Fizz, alongside Doctor Who alumni Colin Baker, Nicola Bryant, Anthony Ainley and Nicholas Courtney
– many of whom could be seen wearing their Daily Star badges on the record sleeve.
