January-March
The Radio Times’ New Year cover broke with recent tradition by not highlighting Doctor Who. The series’ audiences were initially on a par with 1974’s, presumably supporting the magazine’s view that the show was popular enough without promoting Tom Baker on its front cover. While Robot’s figures dropped across the serial, Part Two of The Ark in Space brought an influx of viewers. This represented a new high for the entire series, although a quarter of those viewers didn’t stick around to see the defeat of the Wirrn in Part Four.
