Spotlight on… Genealogical Society of Ireland

Tracing your Irish ancestors can be a challenge to even the most experienced of family historians. Tom Conlon of the Genealogical Society of Ireland explains what support the society offers and the many benefits of membership

The society meets in the historic seaside town of Dún Laoghaire, just south of Dublin city

If you go down to Hardy’s Bar in Dún Laoghaire at 10.30am on the fourth Wednesday of a month (except December) you are likely to encounter a group of guys and gals from the Genealogical Society of Ireland (GSI) sipping coffee and discussing DNA profiles, cemetery records or censuses. Dún Laoghaire (which is pronounced ‘Dune Leereh’, having been called Kingstown until 1922) is an historic seaside suburb six miles south of Dublin. The society’s coffee meeting is open to all – just pay for the coffee.
