BIRTH CERTIFICATES:

Having been lucky on a previous request for help from yourselves and readers I wonder if I could ask again for assistance, this time in tracing the family of the painter of a painting that I inherited?

Jayne Shrimpton is a professional dress historian and ‘photo detective’, photograph consultant for TV series ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ and her books include ‘Tracing Your Ancestors Through Family Photographs’. jayneshrimpton.co.uk

1853. WELLS SOMERSET. SARAH LOCK.

It is an amateur painting by RW Thom, dated 02/11/1965, of a village green and duck pond that was given to my grandmother ‘Billie’ Lilian Parker née Williams. I believe the painter was a family friend but do not know who they were or where they lived, maybe somebody recognises the name or the picture of the pink cottage by the pond (admittedly the farmer’s field and village could well be developed now!)

Emma Jolly MA is a London-based genealogist and writer. Her books include My Ancestor was a Woman at War, Tracing Your Ancestors Using the Census and Tracing Your British Indian Ancestors. An AGRA member, her website is at www.emmajolly.co.uk

1906. BRENTFORD. MDDX. FRANCIS JOHN GUTHRIE SMITH.

I feel it would good to be able to contact the family as they may appreciate the painting more than me. Any ideas anyone? Thoughts and comments much appreciated. Rosemary Russell Please email helen.t@family-tree. co.uk and she will forward it on to Rosemary

David Frost’s interest in genealogy was sparked by the unexpected appearance of an illegitimate and distinctly dodgy family member in 1967. He’s relieved to find that every month still brings new discoveries...
