August feels very autumnal, to me (sorry). There are fewer bees – many have completed their life cycles and some are in hibernation. You may spot huge bumblebee queens drinking the last of the summer wine from late flowers. Swifts will go home soon, while swallows gather on phone lines and think about leaving.
