If you’ve got horses in your life, then you’ve got lots to be thankful for! Even as show season winds down and the daylight dwindles, a trip to the barn still brings peace and calm (most of the time), as you stroke a soft muzzle or just listen to the contented sound of horses chomping hay. It’s the best place in the world to feel carefree for a while. Even chores like sweeping, mucking and grooming have their own soothing, zen-like rhythm.
Although fall brings some of the most enjoyable riding weather, don’t put off planning for the upcoming challenges of winter. Depending on where you live, waiting too long can mean a whole lot of headaches. For 2019 we’re introducing a special Fall Wellness Issue, chock full of everything you need to know to give your horse’s winter health a jump start. Also be sure to check out our article on getting your horse property prepared early for snow and ice (pg. 32), plus special must-have gear to make life easier—including everyone’s friend, the humble Mr. Duct Tape—on pg. 50.
