Apple and Facebook clash over privacy
The big story
Apple’s new iOS 14 ad tracking and privacy features are starting to bite
APPLE INTRODUCED iOS 14.5 TO THE PUBLIC IN APRIL, WHICH ALLOWED YOU TO OPT-IN OR OUT OF TRACKING ACROSS MULTIPLE APPS AND WEBSITES BY COMPANIES USING AN IDFA IDENTIFIER. Now a new report is suggesting that feature is starting to have serious implications for advertising giants like Facebook.
According to Apple, tracking refers to “the act of linking user or device data collected from an app with user or device data collected from other companies’ apps, websites, or offline properties for targeted advertising or advertising measurement purposes. Tracking also refers to sharing user or device data with data brokers.”
