Apple has finally given iPhone users a simple way of unlocking their device with Face ID while wearing a mask. Although you’ve been able to do so via an Apple Watch for a while (a feature we also explain here), you can now unlock an iPhone without the need for a secondary device thanks to a useful new feature introduced in iOS 15.4. Face ID with a Mask works with iPhone 12 and later and it also extends its reach to glasses wearers, putting an end to either punching in a passcode or having to pull a mask on and off. Of course, for many, it may feel as if this feature has come too late. But there are still many settings in which a mask is often required such as in hospitals or other medical situations. And who really knows what’s around the corner?
