You’ll have had your devo, Scotland?

Well that’s it. You’ll have had your devolution Scotland. March 2018 is when the devolution settlement finally died. Now put away your silly ideas of being an equal partner in a British family of nations and do what you’re told. A Conservative government that Scotland didn’t vote for has spoken.

It’s strange how it’s only some referendums which result in the will of the people needing to be implemented. According to our Tory masters in Westminster, the will of the people as expressed in the EU referendum of 2016 trumps everything else. Because a majority of people in England and Wales voted to leave the EU, that gives the British government licence to traduce what the people of Scotland voted for in referendums in 1997 and 2014. In 1997 the people of Scotland voted by a very large majority for the devolution settlement which gave us the Holyrood Parliament and the powers it exercises. In 2014 the people of Scotland, by a much smaller majority, voted to reject independence on the promise that the powers of Holyrood would be entrenched in law, strengthened, and extended.
