PHOTO ESSAY: Michael Russell
Since Hogmanay 2010 Michael Russell has posted a photograph on the Scottish photography website Blipfoto every day. A keen photographer he decided to see if he could record the significant events running up to the 2011 election and then just keep going.
In May 2016 he completed a daily public photographic record of parliamentary sessions, becoming one of the first Parliamentarians in the world to achieve that, and of course during that period he also recorded the Independence Referendum.
Every year he produces a calendar of his pick of the photographs from the past year.
This year iScot persuaded him to share some of the entries:
“My diary photographs started just to please and test me. I wondered if I had the self discipline to ensure that I took something every day and then I discovered that by so doing I was discovering a great deal about the art and craft of photography whilst also looking at the world around me more intently with a developing eye. Blipfoto is a remarkable global community of people who are keen on taking pictures and keen on learning from others. I now find it hard to imagine not being involved. It is owned by its members and you can joint up at any time.
