DO YOU trust the BBC? Most people if asked this question will likely respond yes. However recent findings would indicate that fewer people in Scotland than throughout the rest of the UK trust the corporation, although there are plenty of Scots who do.
Is that trust merited? Ask an independence supporter and the answer will almost invariably be no.
We are of course referring to the BBC’s news and current affairs output in terms of Scotland and not the standard of judging on Strictly Come Dancing. Although I do harbour reservations about Craig Revel Horwood - darling.
It’s widely accepted that the BBC didn’t have an especially good independence referendum campaign as a significant number of Yes activists, were of the opinion that the BBC pursued a deliberate pro-Union agenda.
However the prevailing view amongst the professional commentariat is that any shortcomings were due to poor management or a lack of resource on the part of the BBC. There is virtually nobody in the main stream media who will countenance any suggestion of bias or institutionalised corruption on the part of the corporation.
