My history of growing good-sized onions is sadly lacking, so this year I’m going to try again. I'll give them an early start by sowing in January and I’m also hoping to provide a boost with som growing lights (providing Father Christmas is generous this year and leaves me some; I’m sure the home-made sloe gin and mince pies will seal the deal). I’m also using my own compost mix - basically my version of John Innes seed compost. If all else fails I’ll just tell everyone they are shallots. Worked last year!
