LibreOffice Draw has solid facilities for creating neat-looking charts and other diagrams that rely on reusable symbols that are linked together. There are sub-toolbars with droppable shapes for things like flowcharts, and there is a sidebar with folders full of drag-and-drop symbols. These come with an editable text area and various connection points. They mostly have an attractive, colourful, modern look, but there are more conservative options. Other chart types can be added via extensions.
