PHOTOSHOP: YOU’VE ALL SEEN IT, you’ve all heard of it, but there is a lot more to know about it than you first realize. In this series, we’ll break down different ways you can take advantage of Photoshop, to squeeze every cent’s worth from the high monthly cost of the Adobe CC suite.
So, what exactly is this software? In simple terms, it’s the world’s leading photo-editing application. It’s a tool used by millions of graphic designers, artists, photographers, and people who just want to goof around putting their buddy’s face onto anything their heart desires. Use your imagination there. American brothers Thomas and John Knoll developed Photoshop in 1987. Adobe Systems Incorporated then bought the distribution license in 1988. Little did they know that their beautiful creation, which probably caused them years of brain bashing, was to be used to plaster memes all across the internet.
Anyway, less of that. In this series we are stripping things right back to the beginning, getting familiar with this software, building confidence, and setting the building blocks to Photoshop heaven. Let’s have some fun with it. Photoshop can be used simply for re-touching images, and adding effects, all the way to creating one-of-a-kind pieces of art. There are many ways to use this, and hopefully you’ll learn a little here.

1 OPEN AND CUSTOMIZE
Let’s get right into it. When opening Photoshop you are given the option to create a new file or open an existing one. If you’re familiar with other Adobe products this will look similar to a lot of them. If not, you’ll get to know it like the back of your hand. You can create a canvas of any size you desire by clicking “Create new” at the start [Image A]. When creating from new you get the choice of canvas size, preset sizes, orientation, color mode, and background. If you decide to alter your canvas size later, go to “Image > Canvas size” and change it to whatever suits.
