A new and distinctly grim entity formed by members of Crippled Black Phoenix, Johnny The Boy are alive with vitriol. These barbarous, swaggering tunes are steeped in 30 years of white-knuckle black metal and festering sludge, but the sum of those parts is something different entirely. Die Already barrels along like prime Satyricon, but with a spiky, post-punk atmosphere and, crucially, some of the most vicious and righteously livid necro vocals ever committed to tape. Justin Greaves’s riffs are uniformly great here, but it’s Belinda Kordic’s flesh-flaying screams that elevate the likes of dense, ominous epic Crossings and the scabby death-punk of Wired to a higher level of evil efficacy. ■■■■■■■■■■
