Luke Pitt hosts MMI’s examination of the growing world of 1:48 scale military models, figures and accessories.
Well fellow modellers, it’s happened. As I write this I am into my first day of early retirement. Crazy, right?
Apart from wondering where all the time has gone, I’m looking at my stash and thinking, dude, you have way too many kits.
So what to do? Without a major medical breakthrough that will prolong my life for another 100 years, I simply won’t have time to complete them all.
I’m going to have to do something drastic. I’m better off than some financially, but one must still prioritise where one’s limited funds will go. I’m thinking at this stage sell that I might sell everything off other than 1:48 scale armour and aircraft. I mainly build in 1:48 now and 1:35 scale seems, just well, too big!
Funny, isn’t it? A scale that I cut my teeth on now seems way too big.
As most of you who read this column would know, I have often mentioned my stash and the pleasure that I derive just by looking at it and dreaming of the models and things I could create from it. Well, dreaming and reality are two different things I’m afraid.
The other thing that comes to mind is do I really want to build models full time? It’s fun for sure, but I don’t want it to become a full-time job.
