CHINESE VOLUNTEER SSHK AA TEAM 1:35 KOREAN WAR SERIES KIT NO. 6809
The Peoples Volunteer Army were members of the Chinese PLA (Peoples Liberation Army) that were deployed to Korea during the conflict there between 1950 and 1953. They were called the PVA so as to avoid conflict between the US and China and were in Korea until 1958, five years after the ceasefire.
Chairman Mao had warned that the Chinese would intervene in the conflict if any non-
South Korean forces crossed the 38th Parallel using national security interests as the reason. After UN troops crossed the Parallel on the 8 October 1950, Mao gave the order for the Chinese Volunteers to be moved to the Yalu River and be ready to cross which, after waiting for Soviet help they did so on 25
October and began attacking UN troops.
This set of three figures date back to the 1990s and depicts Chinese troops in quilted jackets and over trousers firing a DShK machine gun mounted on a tripod.
The moulding quality is okay seeing how old the tooling is but there is flash on some pieces plus fine lines on the body parts (what I would call ‘die-lines’). The moulded detail is acceptable but the undercuts on belts, collars, insides of the cuffs etc could do with re-scribing to try and ‘lift’ these details plus the facial features are more western than Asian so could do with replacing. Apart from the fur caps there is no other personal equipment or weapons (apart from the AA gun) included so you would need to source these separately should you wish to add them. Speaking of the gun it is quite a good example of it as the real one was fairly simple however the ring sight could do with an etched metal part for the centre of it and there is no ammo belt provided so you would have to source one from the aftermarket or make it from scratch.
